Spouse and Partner Visas

The Spouse and Partner Visa route allows non-UK nationals to live in the UK with their British or settled partner. Whether you’re married, in a civil partnership, or in a long-term relationship, this visa ensures families can build a life together in the UK, with a path to settlement and eventual citizenship.

Who Is the Spouse or Partner Visa For?

The Spouse and Partner Visa is intended for individuals who are in a genuine and subsisting relationship with a British citizen, a person with Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), or someone with settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme.

To qualify, applicants must meet several key requirements:

  • Relationship Requirement – Married, civil partners, or living together in a relationship for at least 2 years.

  • Financial Requirement – A minimum combined income of £29,000 (as of April 2024), or sufficient savings.

  • English Language Requirement – Applicants must prove English proficiency through an approved test or qualification.

  • Accommodation Requirement – There must be adequate accommodation without relying on public funds.

The visa is granted for 2.5 years, with the option to extend. After 5 years of lawful residence, applicants can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) and eventually British citizenship.
